Professor Linda Sharples
Professor of Statistics and Director of Comprehensive Health


Linda has a first class BSc Hons degree in Mathematics and a PhD in Statistics from the University of Nottingham, under supervision of Professor Sir Adrian Smith. After a short lectureship in medical statistics at Newcastle University Linda went to the MRC Biostatistics Unit in Cambridge where she developed a programme of research in health technology assessment and statistical methods in health economic decision modelling. Much of this work was completed in collaboration with clinicians and scientists at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge. Linda came to Leeds in 2013 as Professor of Statistics and Director of the Comprehensive Health Research Division at the CTRU. Some highlights of Linda’s career include almost 200 full research articles in peer-reviewed statistical and clinical journals, 5 HTA monographs as first or last author and £6-7m in external funding. Linda is also currently the editor of the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society series A.
