David was appointed academic Professor of Surgery in 2011. His research interests include surgical clinical trials, the development of new surgical technologies and fluorescent guided cancer surgery. In 2012 he was awarded an NIHR Research Professorship for his work in developing and translating new surgical technologies into clinical practice and coordinated a successful bid to develop the Leeds NIHR Healthcare Technology Cooperative in Colorectal Disease; this NIHR initiative aims to bring together partners from academia, bioengineering, commerce, patient and public, and other networks to generate innovative therapies for the treatment of colorectal disease.
