NIHR Diagnostic Evidence Co-operative Leeds Launch Event

The NIHR Diagnostic Evidence Co-operative Leeds (NIHR DEC Leeds) launch event was held on 22 November 2013 at the Thackray Medical Museum, Leeds.

The launch event included introductions to the four NIHR Diagnostic Evidence Co-operatives (DECs), followed by informative talks surrounding In Vitro Diagnostics (IVDs), interactive workshops and networking opportunities.

The event was attended by >100 stakeholders from industry, academia, NHS, patients and charities. A representation of the DEC Leeds launch event attendees by sector can be seen below.

The NIHR DEC Leeds launch event also featured two workshops:

 Workshop 1: Barriers to adoption and commissioning of diagnostic

Explored the barriers surrounding adoption and commissioning of new diagnostic tests.  Using case studies on Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) and HER2/neu we discussed and identified several barriers and potential solutions or strategies for overcoming them. 

 Workshop 2: Diagnostic Dragons Den

In partnership with the University of Leed’s Stratified Medicine Hub, the afternoon workshop provided an opportunity to find out about emerging technologies in the diagnostic field and hear an expert panel’s discussions on the utility and potential pathways to market for such platforms.
