2017 UK Diagnostics Summit

Dr Helen Radford, Operational and Scientific Manager at NIHR DEC Leeds, attended the 2017 UK Diagnostics Summit, held at the Wellcome Collection London in November.

The Summit, organised by 4AllofUs, in association with BIVDA brought together a range of key decision makers, clinicians, academics and industry representatives to explore how diagnostics are improving patient outcomes and supporting the prevention of hospital admissions across the UK.

Alongside presentations, there was a programme of workshops on six key health issues for which diagnostics are being utilised, designed to provide a hands-on, intensive discussion forum about how to improve outcomes via diagnostics. Issues addressed included sexual health; antibiotic resistance; diabetes; sepsis; home care diagnostics and cancer.

A series of case studies outlined recent advances in diagnostics, demonstrating their impact in different healthcare settings.

Dr Radford said: “The summit was a great opportunity to see how the excellent research that is being carried out in point of care diagnostics is having a real and positive impact on patient outcomes.”
